The Mirpuri Foundation took Part in the inaugural Ocean Summit in Lisbon, reinforcing Commitment to Ocean Sustainability and Regenerative Tourism.

The Mirpuri Foundation, a global leader in promoting sustainability, participated in the first edition of the Ocean Summit, held from October 29 to 30 in Lisbon. The summit, organized by the Fundação Carlos Albertino Veiga, gathered a distinguished group of experts, political representatives, and environmental advocates to address the urgent need for ocean sustainability.

With a mission to support a sustainable and responsible world for future generations, the Mirpuri Foundation was an integral part of the event, contributing valuable insights on marine conservation. Under the summit’s theme of “A Vision for the World”, the event brought together leaders and specialists to forge new strategies for the preservation and sustainability of ocean ecosystems. Topics such as the blue economy, responsible tourism, the impacts of climate change, and innovative ocean monitoring technologies were explored in depth.

Ana Agostinho, representing the Mirpuri Foundation, delivered a keynote presentation during the “Responsible Tourism” panel. She highlighted the transformative potential of regenerative tourism—tourism that goes beyond sustainability by actively restoring and rejuvenating ecosystems, communities, and local economies. In her speech, Agostinho shared examples of successful regenerative projects from around the world, including a collaboration between the Mirpuri Foundation and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This partnership exemplifies the Foundation’s leadership in regenerative tourism and marine conservation.

Through its participation, the Mirpuri Foundation reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the future health of our oceans. The foundation’s involvement underscored the critical role of responsible tourism in driving positive environmental change and promoting global marine conservation efforts.

The Ocean Summit also featured key thought leaders, including Paulo Veiga, President of the Fundação Carlos Albertino Veiga and former Minister of the Sea of Cape Verde, as well as Fabien Cousteau, founder of the Proteus Ocean Group and grandson of the legendary oceanographer Jacques Cousteau. These leaders, alongside other prominent figures, shared their expertise on the future of ocean conservation, underscoring the importance of collaboration between science, governance, and innovation in achieving a healthy and sustainable ocean.

The inaugural Ocean Summit provided a dynamic platform for global discussions on ocean conservation, with the Mirpuri Foundation playing a key role in shaping the conversation around regenerative tourism and marine ecosystem preservation.
