The Minister of the Sea also witnessed, at the same location, the signing of a protocol between three entities of the ministry: the National Directorate of Maritime Policies, the National Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Institute of the Sea (IMar), and the Carlos Albertino Veiga Foundation.
Mindelo, August 1 (Inforpress) – The Ministry of the Sea today formalized, in Mindelo, the cooperation protocol that implements the sector's governance portal, utilizing the expertise of the Technical University of the Atlantic (UTA) for interoperability across different areas.
The protocol for this purpose was signed between UTA and the National Directorate of Maritime Policies, chaired by the Minister of the sector, Jorge Santos.
According to Jorge Santos, the ministry's digital governance is fundamental to responding to its "immense responsibilities" and creating interoperability between all services.
The portal, he added, will serve both for internal communication and for relationships with partners and various stakeholders in the sector.
"In other words, we need to digitize the way we interact internally and how we interact between the ministry and the general public," the same source reiterated, adding that this implementation is divided into several phases.
The first phase will focus on creating the portal, and the next phase will involve integrating all existing portals within the Ministry of the Sea.
The total implementation of the project is budgeted at around 10,700 contos, as assured by Jorge Santos.
On behalf of UTA, Rector João do Monte explained that the university participates in the project through a cooperation with the company Prime Consulting, which is the strategic partner for the digital area.
"Based on these synergies, we can bring the solution that the Ministry of the Sea needs," João do Monte emphasized.
According to the foundation's representative, Paulo Veiga, the moment marks a "firm commitment" from the institution to sustainable development and the promotion of ocean literacy and the blue economy.
“Our objective is to reach the people of Cape Verde, not only to help them understand our sea and know how to take advantage of it, but to act and promote this action,” explained the official, for whom the maritime sector is “one of the most promising in the Cape Verdean economy.”
Paulo Veiga, who previously headed the ministry as a former minister, said that Cape Verde cannot develop without acting upon and understanding its largest territory, located in the ocean.
Therefore, the Carlos Albertino Veiga Foundation, he emphasized, "wants to make its contribution without demanding anything from the State."
For his part, Minister Jorge Santos praised the importance of the protocol, as this is the spirit of the ministry, "not to govern alone, but rather with all civil society organizations."
